20 Awkward Moments for Black People at Work....

1. When your coworker asks if you’re going to answer your phone, and since you don’t know the number you ignore it. (Secretly, you know that it’s Verizon Wireless or Sallie Mae calling from that unknown number.)
2. When they ask you if you’ll play on the company basketball team, but never on the golf team.
3. When someone asks if you want chicken for lunch, and you really do want chicken for lunch.
4. When you’re asked to speak on an issue or topic for your entire race in the morning status meeting.
5. When you forget to silence your ringer, your phone goes off in that same meeting, and you realize that you’ve had Jeezy’s “Supafreak” as a ringtone for way too long.
6. When a family member calls you and asks you for money.
7. When your coworkers think that a good time to you is being in an establishment where they sell alcohol with all white people and you’re the only Black person.
8. When your coworkers think you’re attending the company retreat in the middle of the woods with all white people and you’re the only Black person.
9. When they assume you’re the atlas of the bad neighborhoods in the city. “Hey my friend is having a party at E. 99th street, is that the ghetto?”
10. When you’re at happy hour and the drinks cost, “on the house.99” and you’re discreetly trying to order Henny,
11. When you get away with not brushing your hair or getting that haircut you’ve been needing for about a week and no one notices.
12. When your coworker references a standup by a popular Black comedian like Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock.
13. When you dance at the company holiday party and everyone stares at you in amazement.
14. When your child’s teacher calls you at work about your child’s behavior and you have to start the “let me speak with him” rant.
15. When your boss has “the talk” with you about being late and you don’t get what the big deal is.
16. When your coworkers catch you smoking a Black & Mild by the loading dock during your break.
17. When you say “pause” instead of “that’s what she said” and the only person who laughs is the other Black person in the office.
18. When you realize that you still have no idea what Nalgene means.
19. When they ask you “why didn’t you just catch a cab?” but they don’t understand you tried that.
20. When you overhear your coworkers talking about the upcoming election and how Romney is going to win, and Obama has to go.

TOP RECRUIT SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IN PRISON...YOU WILL LEARN YOUR LESSONS ONE WAY OR THE OTHER....

Instead of sifting through scholarship offers, selecting a school and launching his college basketball career as he originally planned, an Ohio high school standout will have to put his dreams on hold.
Tony Farmer, an 18-year-old senior at Garfield Heights High School, received a three-year prison sentence on Tuesday as a result of pleading guilty to kidnapping, felonious assault and other crimes.
The 6-foot-7 forward had been hoping to receive probation after teachers, coaches and family members testified on his behalf. When he learned he'd be going to prison as the judge read his sentence, he crumpled into the arms of a sheriff's deputy and collapsed to the ground in anguish.
In an odd twist, among those in the gallery sobbing in reaction to the judge's decision was the victim herself, Farmer's ex-girlfriend Andrea Lane. Even though the two remain separated since Farmer attacked Lane last April after she didn't want to reconcile their relationship, Lane had previously asked Judge Pamela Barker not to put Farmer in prison.
"I know he was a good person," she said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I hope he still is."
The entire courtroom scene is depressing and hard to watch because Farmer had such a bright future prior to this incident. Before video cameras caught his altercation with Lane on tape last April in the lobby and parking lot of her apartment complex, Farmer was a consensus top 100 prospect who had drawn interest from the likes of Ohio State, Xavier, Dayton and Michigan State.
What Farmer did was unequivocally wrong and the punishment he received from Barker is appropriate. But unless Barker reduces Farmer's sentence when she reviews it in 180 days, his hopes of playing major college basketball are likely now over.

WHAT SHE DID...FILED FOR DIVORCE ALREADY...EVELYN LOZADA

Earlier today, Evelyn Lozada released her first statement in regards to the recent domestic altercation with husband, Chad Johnson, and now she’s taken it one step further. After just six weeks of marriage, The Basketball Wives star has officially filed for divorce.

Via TMZ: Evelyn Lozada filed legal docs moments ago in Florida, claiming her marriage is “irretrievably broken.”

The trigger for the divorce was the domestic violence incident over the weekend, in which Chad Johnson was arrested after allegedly head-butting her during an argument. Evelyn claimed she found a receipt for a box of condoms in his car.

According to the divorce docs, the couple had a prenup — but that won’t be a big deal since the marriage was shorter than Kim Kardashian’s.

HE DIDN'T WIN THE GOLD BUT HE WON MY HEART....I LOVE TYSON GAY.....

IS IT ALMOST TIME FOR FOOTBALL SEASON???

SHOULD YOU CONFESS INDISCRETIONS?

One of our MIA blog readers would like a little advice about what he should do. He and his girlfriend recently had “the talk” and decided to go exclusive. Soon after the talk, he goes on a weekend trip with his boys and has a little inappropriate contact with random girl at bar.
He knows that since they had “the talk” he should own up to his indiscretion. The problem is, his girlfriend broke up with the last guy for a similar offense. Although he believes what he did was “not as bad” the fact that he didn’t actually sleep with someone else means he should keep it to himself.
If you are in an exclusive relationship, would you confess if you did a little dirt on the side? Would it matter the degree of the offense?
If someone you were seeing did something inappropriate with someone else, would you want them to tell you?
What would do if you your new boyfriend/girlfriend had an encounter with someone else, right after you decided to be exclusive?
P.S. For the record, I believe that if you hook up with someone else on vacation/out of the country or state..it’s still cheating. Seriously, don’t ever ask for a pass on something like that.

WHAT SHE SAID...GOLDEN GIRL GABBY ON HER HAIR...AND THE COMMENTS ABOUT IT

I don’t know where this is coming from. What’s wrong with my hair? I’m like, I just made history and people are focused on my hair?’ It can be bald or short, it doesn’t matter about (my) hair.

Nothing is going to change. I’m going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it.

I don’t think people should be worried about that. We’re all champions and we’re all winners. I just say that it’s kind of, a stupid and crazy thought to think about my hair.

INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON HER WINNING GOLD, PEOPLE CHOOSE TO FOCUS ON HER HAIR.....THERE ARE STILL HATERS IN 2012....

Gabby Douglas is proudly representing her country in the Olympics. She's poised under pressure, performing gravity-defying athletic feats in front of an international audience. She's 16 and the second female African American U.S. gymnast to ever make the team. But instead of lauding her achievements, some people are slamming her for... not getting her hair done.
Many African American women choose not to work out in order to protect their hairstyle, Randolph points out. "The last time I checked when you play a sport, you sweat. I know I do. And when a Black woman who has chosen to wear her hair straight begins to sweat, her hair will (not might) begin to revert back to its natural coily, curly, or kinky state," she writes. "Some of us are sitting up right now with our hair done but suffering from high blood pressure, borderline diabetes, obesity, and/or a lack of energy. Oh, but the hair is on point."
Hair has always held a special significance in the African American community. Emmy Award-winning comedian Chris Rock was so struck by his daughter's obsession with her friend's hair that he made a documentary about it, "Good Hair," in which he goes on a quest to better understand why hair is so important to so many black women.
"There's always this sort of pressure within the black community like, if you have good hair, you're prettier or better than the brown-skinned girl that wears the Afro or the dreads or the natural hairstyle," actress Nia Long told him when he interviewed her for his film.
"They say it's for the men, but it's really for the women. Because guys don't care" about a woman's hair, he points out. His theory is born out in the stream of tweets about Douglas' hair -- the most critical comments are by women. (Thankfully, some of the most supportive ones since have been by African American women as well.)
Instead of worrying about whether her hair is perfect, Douglas is focused on making history and winning Olympic gold. She is representing all Americans, not just one single group. She's achieved more by age 16 than most of us do in a lifetime. Shouldn't we be cheering her on instead of tearing her down?

DO WE NEED SEXUAL LABLES?

Apparently, some young hip hop artist related to Billy Ocean (I think?), decided to reveal to the world his past relationship with another man. Mind you, he had an upcoming album that was about to be released, so who knows if this was a brilliant PR move or not.

At any rate, this caused all sorts of buzz and talk about homophobia in hip hop. I also watched people talk about what it means to be straight, gay, bi-sexual or any other sexual labels people have.

I started to wonder why it is important to have these “sexual identities” and does it really matter in the end? Are we attracted to people or to gender? The same week that Frank Ocean talked about his relationship with another man, Anderson Cooper decided it was time to publicly acknowledge that he was homosexual.

I don’t know if it was a shock to many and I even wonder why he felt compelled to talk about it at all. Does it change his image in the public eye as a journalist/talk-show host?

Why do you believe we need sexual labels? What would you do if the person you were dating told you they have had same-sex relationships in the past?

WHAT HE SAID...SLIM THUG ON ABORTIONS....

“I think abortion is necessary on some occasions. People be against it, but people don’t deal with the real life situations some people deal with. I don’t think it’s right, I don’t think it’s good to have a baby and not be with the father. That’s part of the biggest problem. My mother, she took care of me, but she was working 7 days-a-week, 12 hours-a-day. That was a struggle, I seen how much she struggled and it was so hard coming up. I don’t even know who my daddy is. I don’t like that. I think a kid deserves both his parents. That’s why I think if you ain’t gonna be with somebody, you don’t need to have a kid with him.

Even though I got 3 baby mamas…. it’s working out. But it ain’t right. I ain’t saying wait 3 or 4 months. If it’s immediate, it’s like birth control to me.
