Whats up with kids these days?

I don't have any kidsof my own yet but I have 5 nieces, a nephew, a little brother in high school and a 12 year old that I mentor from the Big Brother/Big Sister Program of Greater Atlanta (please donate your time to help make a difference in our community)

I'm perplexed as to how when you have no real responsibility besides going to school and making decent grades and halfway cleaning up makes you have an attitude, be depressed, too tired, too moody or unappreciative...

I don't get it...

I send my little brother some money, even though he is old enough to get a job and start learning the importance of money, and he doesn't even call to thank me! That was the first and the last time....My mother tells me, "He's at home, you should call him there." Call him for what? He didn't send me any money. Needless to say he is quickly burning bridges that he can't afford to burn.

My oldest niece is either 60 years old in "true year" or has narcolepsy that we haven't diagnosed. She sleeps ALL THE TIME. When she is home, she isn't like most kids who like watching TV or talking on the phone. She loves to sleep. Call her at 4:45 on any given school day and she is taking a nap after school. Try calling her at 7:30 and she is already in the bed for the night. I try on the weekends when I talk to my sister faithfully and guess what, my niece is still in the bed at 12:30 on Saturday afternoons. You don't work, have any tiresome hobbies or participate in sports yet you are already too tired to do anything in early teenage year. Go figure!!!

My nephew is a cross between the little boy from Problem Child (the movies) and the original Chucky, just with a dark tan and no hair. The kid is a terror. I love him to death and would do anything for him but the kid is terrible. Too smart for his own good because he knows how to play you as well as play adults against each other. From pushing kids down to screaming at the ice cream shop to kicking his barber to stealing candy instead of asking for it, he leaves a lasting impression. He cussed his teacher out and was kicked out of 13 day care centers. My sister says he is just being a boy. He is all of 7 years old and whippings do not phase him. It's hard to spend time with him because he can be sweet one minute and the next flip out on you.

Last but not leave of the kids in my life that drive me crazy, my Little(what the BB/BS program call the kid you mentor)

This kid is the offspring of a single Dr. and you can tell. Spoiled, mature and a little nerdy. He is super smart and SUPER MOODY. He wants what he wants when he wants it and has told me a few times, "If you wont buy it, my mother will." The kid wont talk to you unless he wants to. And he is jealous of other people. The few times we have interacted with other kids or adults, he was possessive or totally shut down not wanting to share his time. I have literally tried talking to him and he did not respond for the whole time we hung out for the day. Needless to say he went home earlier than we had planned.

I know I'm not the only person with INTERESTING kids in my life....what about yours?
