I STILL HATE TEXTING....2011 EDITION...

I dislike texting, prefer hearing the persons voice and think you get a better understanding of the conversation and feel it's pointless UNLESS you are in a meeting and can not pick up the phone for a quick second....that said, If I communicate with you ONLY via text, YOU ARE NOT THAT IMPORTANT TO ME.

IT'S OFFICIAL....A STAR IS BORN....HERE NAME IS WILLOW

We told you earlier that the Broadway/Hollywood classic Annie was being remade by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, starring Willow Smith. Now it's official.

How fab! It's official that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have decided to produce a remake of Annie starring their daughter ten-year-old Willow Smith. The film will be made by Overbrook Entertainment, which the Smiths co-own, along with Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Sony Pictures.

As you might remember, the movie tells the story of little orphan Annie whose life is transformed when she goes to live with the wealthy industrialist Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks. This is one of my favorite movies so I'm interested to see Willow bring her swagger to "Maybe," "Hard Knock Life" (if included) and "Tomorrow."

STAND FOR SOMETHING AND BE THE CHANGE.....

http://www.fallingwhistles.com/store/

Falling Whistles is a non-profit organization campaigning for peace and the rehabilitation of child soldiers in Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Falling Whistles sells whistles for $34 to $104 to raise money for Congolese organizations rehabilitating child soldiers. Children who are too young to carry weapons are sent into battle armed only with whistles. By wearing replica whistles, the campaign wants to raise awareness of the situation in Congo and raise money. As of September 2010, $500,000 has been raised.

Falling Whistles does not publish the names of its partner organizations to protect their safety.

In September 2010, Failing Whistles volunteers started a tour of 30 cities, visiting universities and organizations including Google, MIT and Tufts University.

12 MYTHS AND FACTS ON BEING GAY....

MYTH #1: "I don't know any persons who are gay."

FACT: You may not know any
persons who are out to you as being gay. In a classroom of 30
persons, for instance, there are probably 2-3 persons who are gay.
Estimates are that 1 person out of 10 is gay. Using one widely
accepted estimate, there may be over 20 million gay or lesbian
persons in the United States alone.

MYTH #2:"Being gay is a form of illness."

FACT: The American Psychological
Association says, "It is no more abnormal or sick to be gay than to
be left-handed. There is, in fact, a growing body of evidence to
indicate that sexual orientation is determined before birth by some
combination of genetic and biological events. Since it is not an
illness, it needs, nor has, no cure.

MYTH #3:"Gay persons are child molesters and recruit children to their
lifestyle."

FACT: By far, the majority of child molesters are
heterosexual men. The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect in
the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, found that over 90%
of all child abuse is committed by straight men on minor females.
Furthermore, one does not choose to be gay just as one does not
choose to be straight. One only decides whether to act on his/her
orientation.

MYTH #4:"Men who are gay and women who are lesbians want to be the opposite
sex or have simply not found the right person."

FACT: Almost all of the males enjoy being men and almost all of the women enjoy being
women. They simply are attracted to, and fall in love with, persons
of their same sex.

MYTH #5:"Persons who are gay cannot maintain long-term relationships. "

FACT: Just like heterosexual people, persons who are gay form a variety of
relationships that last a short time or many years. Heterosexuals
even have a divorce rate of 50% while nobody knows about the length
of relationships of gay persons since they are not allowed to marry.

MYTH #6:"People who are gay could change if they wanted to do so."

FACT: Almost all studies show that no one, gay or straight, can change
their sexual orientation. Our orientation is almost certainly
determined sometime between conception and the first years of life.
Gay and straight people might be able to change their behavior but
not their underlying orientation. We do not, however, choose our
sexual orientation. Dr. George Weinberg writes in Society and the
Healthy Homosexual, "From what I have seen, the harm to the
homosexual man or woman done by the person's trying to convert is
mutifold...First of all, the venture is almost certain to fail...In
trying to convert, you will deepen your belief that you are one of
nature's misfortunes. "

MYTH #7:"Persons who are gay do not understand how to make a good family."

FACT: One in every four families has a gay or lesbian person within
that family several studies suggest. Studies also show that there is
no difference between gay and straight persons in their quality or
ability to care, love or raise children.

MYTH #8:"Persons who are gay are protected and granted equal rights."

FACT: Only a few states and a few cities and organizations include gay
persons in their policies of nondiscrimination. Gay persons are not
allowed to get married, are not given the same financial rights as
straight couples, do not have to be allowed in to see their partner
who is ill in a hospital and so forth

MYTH #9:"You can identify someone as being gay or lesbian by their mannerisms
or physical characteristics. "

FACT: Gay people are as diverse as are
straight persons. Only a small percentage of gay persons fit the
stereotypes.

MYTH #10:"In a gay relationship, one person plays the husband (butch) and the
other plays the wife (femme) role."

FACT: Since laws, churches andsociety have typically condemned, or at least ignored, the relationships of gay persons, most gay persons do not feel an
obligation to follow "the rules" of what a relationship is to look
like. Most gays and lesbians, therefore, create very different
relationships based on equality and who each person is, rather than
upon societal roles. In fact, since most gay and lesbian persons run
their relationships without a model, the look of each relationship
varies greatly from that of other relationships.

MYTH #11:"Gay and lesbian persons are promiscuous. "

FACT: Some are and some aren't, just as the same can be said for straight persons.

MYTH #12:"Being gay or lesbian is something new."

FACT: Homosexuality appears
across time and place, and even across animal species. In a 1951
study by Ford and Beach, they found even then that many cultures
consider homosexuality a normal variation of sexual behavior.

GAY TEENS ON TV AFFECTING TEENS IN THE "REAL WORLD"....

When Rickie Vasquez came out to his family on a 1994 episode of My So- Called Life, he ended up bruised, bloodied, and living in an abandoned warehouse full of homeless teens, afraid to tell even his closest friends why his uncle had kicked him out of the house just before Christmas. He didn’t even utter the word “gay” on screen until the season finale, which became the show’s final episode—and that was only to console a girl he’d rejected.

No wonder Rickie felt the need to keep his sexual orientation painfully tucked away—he was completely alone when it came to gay teens on television. He was the first on a primetime network show, and he’d be the only one for another five lonely years. In fact, there would be just a handful more in the next 10 years. “It was cathartic in some ways and painful in others,” says the man who played him, Wilson Cruz, now 37, whose real life inspired many of Rickie’s story lines. “The biggest part was the acknowledgment of our existence and our pain, which we hadn’t seen at all on television before that.”

If only Rickie could see Glee’s Kurt Hummel now. The breakout character (played by Chris Colfer) on TV’s most buzzed-about network show has won an Emmy nomination, a Golden Globe, and viewers’ hearts with an at times poignant, but often, well, gleeful depiction of a modern gay teen. It took Kurt only four episodes to say the words “I’m gay” to his dad, to which his father shrugged and said, “If that’s who you are, there’s nothing I can do about it. And I love you just as much.” He sealed it with a hug, and a new kind of gay hero was born: one who’s loved as much for his boa wearing as he is for fending off bullies and forming a touching stepbrotherly bond with his former crush.

Kurt, incidentally, spent his Christmas episode duetting on a wildly flirtatious version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with his new dreamy male idol, Blaine (Darren Criss). “That was by far the gayest thing that has ever been on TV, period,” Colfer says. “Forget AbFab, forget Beautiful People and Will & Grace.” The song became the most downloaded track off the Glee Christmas album—and ubiquitous on the radio during the holidays. “I was proud of that,” Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy says. “I think it pushed the envelope a bit.”

Unlike Rickie, Kurt and Blaine are far from alone in their boundary pushing this TV season. Gay characters have gone from one-time guest stars, whispered tragedies, and silly sidekicks to not just an accepted but an expected part of teen-centric television. The change reflects real teens’ lives: The percentage of schools with gay-straight alliance clubs is up from 25 percent in 2001 to 45 percent today, indicating the increasingly visible role that gay kids are playing in the high school landscape. With the average coming-out age now 16 (down from 19–23 in the ’80s), according to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, it only makes sense for teens on TV to tackle the issue. “With our millennial audience, it’s what they expect to see,” says ABC Family exec VP of programming Kate Juergens. “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was such a vestige of an older generation.”

MY FAVORITE COMEDIAN SPEAKS OUT....

CHECK THE STATISTICS...LET'S DO BETTER IN AREAS WE CAN.....

-Blacks die of heart disease much more often than whites, and die younger, despite the availability of cheap prevention measures like weight loss, exercise, blood-pressure and cholesterol drugs, and aspirin. The same is true for strokes.

-Overdoses of prescription drugs now kill more Americans than overdoses of illegal drugs, the opposite of the pattern 20 years ago. Overdose death rates are now higher among whites than blacks; that trend switched in 2002, after doctors began prescribing more powerful painkillers, antidepressants and anti psychotics — more easily obtained by people with health insurance.

-More than 80 percent of all suicides are committed by whites, but young American Indian adults have the highest suicide rates by far — 25 per 100,000 population at age 21, compared with 14 for whites, 10 for blacks and 8 for Asians and Hispanics.

-American Indians and Alaska Natives are twice as likely to die in car crashes as any other group.

-Babies born to black women are up to three times as likely to die in infancy as those born to women of other races.

-High blood pressure is twice as common among blacks as whites, but the group with the least success in controlling it is Mexican-Americans.

-Compared with whites, blacks have double the rate of “preventable hospitalizations,” which cost about $7 billion a year.

-Blacks, Hispanics and American Indians, whether gay or straight, all have higher rates of new infection with the AIDS virus than whites, and the situation is getting worse for blacks and Indians. Asians have the lowest rate.

-Binge drinking — defined as five drinks for men and four for women — is increasing. In a switch from the norm for health problems, it is more common among the better-educated and more affluent, including college students. But poor people, and especially American Indians, drink much more heavily when on binges.

-Teenage pregnancy is holding steady or falling for all ethnic groups, but is still three times as common among Hispanic girls as among white girls, and more than twice as common among black girls as among whites

ATLANTA IS SHUT DOWN.....

This morning, Atlantans awakened to find the city blanketed with snow. After turning on the news and hearing that the city was virtually immobilized, I grabbed my tape measure and stepped out onto my balcony.

I measured a total of 1-inch of snowfall that had accumulated during the night.

Folks from up North laugh at 1 inch of snow. But that 1 inch has shut the city of Atlanta down. 2,000 flights have been canceled in and out of Atlanta Hartsfield Airport — the busiest airport in the nation.

City government and schools are closed. Highways are closed. Buses and trains are standing still. Banks and grocery stores are closed. If you need gas in your car to get to work: forget it.

HUCKLEBERRY FINN REVAMPED...GOOD THING

This year a new version of the literary classic ‘Huckleberry Finn’ will have the racial epithets removed from its text, including “nigger” and “Injun”. Seems a little late…the book as been out since 1885, but hey better 126 years late than never…

Huckleberry Finn is uniquely marvelous because it is of its time yet manages to transcend it. In spite of the limitations of vocabulary, cultural expectations, and racial stereotypes, it lays bare the inhumanity of slavery through the power of satire. To remove it from this context is to strip it of its power — and to needlessly whitewash a period that deserves no whitewashing.

There is nothing quite parallel to this sort of change. It’s not about avoiding an awkward classroom moment, or they would have removed the word “ejaculate” from Victorian novels, where everybody is always ejaculating about everything.

It would be like renaming 1984 2084, “because the current title does not reflect how pleasant life was under the Reagan administration.”

This is like changing War and Peace to Peace, because war is unpleasant to remember, or removing World War I from All Quiet on the Western Front.

SEND THIS TO ALL THE BDN'S YOU KNOW....(FILL IN THE BLANK)

A FULL MEAL VS. A SNACK....

I have a friend that calls me MEAL:

When we are hanging out he calls other gay men SNACKS:

So I looked up the definition of the words to see how he was applying them to gay men.

...A meal is an instance of eating, specifically one that takes place at a specific time and includes specific, prepared food.

Meals occur primarily at homes, restaurants, and cafeterias, but may occur anywhere. Regular meals occur on a daily basis, typically several times a day. Special meals are usually held in conjunction with such occasions as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and holidays.

A meal is different from a snack in that meals are larger, more varied, and more filling, while snacks are more likely to be small, high-calorie affairs; however, any food eaten in small amounts at an unscheduled time can be classified as a snack.

A picnic is an outdoor meal where one brings one's food, such as a sandwich or a prepared meal (sometimes in a picnic basket). It often takes place in a natural or recreative area, such as a park, forest, beach, or grassy lawn. On long drives a picnic may take place at a road-side stop such as a rest area.

A banquet is a large, often formal, and elaborate meal with many guests and dishes..

A FEW THOUGHTS...

1. MIAMI PLEASE BE GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF THE REVENUE YOU MAKE OFF THE BLACK THAT CONVERGE ON MIAMI FOR MEMORIAL WEEKEND....INSTEAD OF ADDING ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICES AND UPGRADING FROM STANDARD PADDY WAGONS OR CRUISER CARS TO TAKE PEOPLE TO JAIL (THEY USE TOUR BUSES) HOW ABOUT INVESTING IN SOME OUTLETS OF FUN AND RECREATION BESIDES WALKING UP AND DOWN OCEAN DRIVE...

2. DID ANYBODY EVEN GET ON THE ACTUAL BEACH....SUNDAY THE BEACH WAS DEAD!!!

3. WHY INCREASE THE COST OF EVERYTHING BY 50-75% AND THEN PUT A CHECK LIMIT ON TABLES AT THE RESTAURANTS....WE ARE IN A RECESSION SO THAT DOESN'T HELP YOUR BUSINESS IF NOBODY CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD TO EAT

4. TO ALL THE FEMALES WEARING SHIT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN WEARING WALKING AROUND IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, EVERY TIME I LOOKED AT YOU, I THREW UP A LITTLE IN MY MOUTH!

5. TO ALL THE BROTHERS WALKING AROUND THE STRIP WITH NO SHIRTS ON, SAGGING....AND ESPECIALLY TO THE BRUS WHO DECIDED TO NOT WEAR UNDERWEAR...I COULD HAVE TOLD YOU WHERE THE REAL PARTY WAS. YOU WERE OBVIOUSLY LOOKING FOR THE BOY PARTIES....THEY WERE OFF THE BRIDGE IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI.

TOPS VS. BOTTOMS PER CITY.....HOW ACCURATE???

(SOME OF THE CITIES WITH MORE TOPS LISTED ARE INACCURATE)

"Ask the questions you need to know, listen for what you want to know."

Once in awhile we all seem to be a little nosey... inquisitive... or a bit too curious. But as of late there have been a couple acquaintances of mine that seem to think they are entitled to know just a little too much information about my personal life, than what I deem they should need to know. For example...

Him: What did you do last night?
Me: Dinner at Art and Soul.
Him: Oh who did you go with?Me: Oh a friend of mine.
Him: Oh who?
Me: You are so fucking nosey... I told you what you needed to know.

And what kills me the most is no matter how many times several people tell this person how nosey they are... they just do not get the point. Not sure about the others but I choose to keep a lot of my personal life to myself, especially from boys that like to sit around like 2 gossiping girls and tell your business. When I was a child and I became too inquisitive my mother always called me on it and told me that somethings are just none of my business. I will never forget her once telling me... "Ask the questions you need to know, listen for what you want to know."

(THE BLACKER THE BERRY.....YOU KNOW THE REST)

BEAUTY PERSONIFIED....

(I NOW BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SITE)

PLEASE DRESS ACCORDINGLY....DRESS CODE FOR CLUBS IN 2011

Just by considering the club you’re going to, and adjusting your wardrobe accordingly you can really make yourself stand out from the status quo.

The College Club
It’s a college club. The usual mix of frat guys, sorority girls, serious students looking to cut loose, and older high school kids with fake IDs. People are drinking. A lot. It’s a generic venue that doesn’t cater to any specific style.

What To Wear: Casual. Nowhere else will effort be more apparent than at a college bar. Throwing on a suit or even the latest designer t-shirt will be a wasted effort here that will mark you as a slumming yuppie.

A decent pair of sneakers or slip-ons, a clean fitted t-shirt, and jeans will work just fine. If you feel the urge to wear something really nice, designer denim is never a bad choice.

The Top-40 Club
Sort of a grown-up version of the college bar, these places offer the same sort of noncommittal, everyguy entertainment. A good mix of 9-to-5ers, and the bridge and tunnel kids who don’t know of any better clubs. Expect remixes of radio hits, and girls who freak out and start screaming and high-fiving when the latest track comes on.

What To Wear: Casual smart. A lot of these places have dress codes that ban hooded sweatshirts, hats, sneakers, or anything too distressed. Unfortunately this mentality really lends itself to guys rocking jeans paired with a club shirt, it’s the easiest path to take.

For those looking for something a bit different, consider trim black slacks paired with a polo shirt, or a pair of slim khaki’s and a nice navy cardigan.

The Lounge
It’s a more downbeat crowd; it’s an older crowd, with the occasional discussion about 401k’s, girls in cocktail dresses instead of leggings, and a lot less dancing. DJs working these venues throw out terms like ‘Minimal House’ and ‘Progressive’ with dead seriousness. A great choice if you’re feeling a bit too old to go out and dance in a crowd of kids wearing shutter shades.

What To Wear: Many of these places are pretty strict about dress codes, and sometimes don’t let in people in runners and jeans. Even if you do manage to get in while wearing those ratty old Adidas, nobody is going to want to take your broke-ass home. You’re going to have to suit up.

Don’t just wear that same old work suit; pick something in a slim cut, and with a matching shirt underneath. Rock a necktie only if you feel comfortable in it, otherwise they’re unnecessary.

The Hip-Hop Club
Who’s down with OPP? This whole party, that’s who! It’s the kind of place that blows up once the DJ drops Clipse or R. Kelly, and the kind of place that you wish you could walk into in slow motion, because that’s invariably what they do in the music videos.

What To Wear: The big mistake people make when dressing for a hip-hop club is the notion that you have to dress like the rappers whose music pumps through the speakers. Just take your normal weekend attire and add a few little touches if you feel you need to, such as some low-key jewelry or a fresh pair of new kicks. Try swapping your regular pants for a pair of easy-fit jeans and some Air Jordan’s.

Don’t go crazy though; Lil Wayne can drop his jeans around his thighs, but that’s strictly because he is Lil Wayne.

The Mega Club
I hope you absolutely love house music; otherwise this is going to be a very long night. Multiple rooms hosted by DJs and promoters high off of their own sense of achievement. However, these events offer some of the most fun, and lead to the best stories you will ever be a part of.

Expect to see people in costumes, fog machines, and people with nicknames as strange as their attire. Don’t be surprised to wake up with glitter on your crotch; that stuff takes forever to get out.
What To Wear: You may feel the urge to pick up candy necklaces or Day-Glo mesh shirts, but resist. It’s not 1995, and rave is not what it once was, thank God.

Start with a clean, bright top. Add a comfortable pair of pants that breathe well (you are probably going to sweat no matter what).

Don’t wear anything you would object to having champagne and confetti spilled onto. In many of these places, sitting room is at a premium, so make comfortable shoes a priority.

General Club Advice
Though every club is different, there are a few rules for all of them that you ought to keep in mind.

Don’t wear anything you’re going to object to getting dirty, especially shoes, since they will end up sticky and probably covered with dirt.
Most clubs get very sweaty, very fast. Owners don’t object to this, because it sells more drinks. Take this into consideration when planning what you’re wearing. Leave the Mohair sweater at home.
Use the coat check.
Don’t build your entire outfit around one item. Being ‘awesome story guy’ or ‘surprisingly good at dancing guy’ is one thing, but nobody wants to be ‘hat guy’ or ‘popped collar guy.
Just by considering the club you’re going to, and adjusting your wardrobe accordingly you can really make you stand out from the status quo.
