IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW....HOWARD'S PAST....

The “brown paper bag test” form of colorism is also believed to have been used in the application process to the prestigious Historically Black College Howard University. The University once required students to submit a photograph of themselves, most likely to ensure that the majority of the Universities students were of lighter complexion.

I know that this was the case at a number of HBCU's back in the day, but I have never heard about this at Howard. I considered applied to Morehouse, but when I received the application and it required a picture I decided against applying. That was in 1990. I remember looking at the application and trying to figure out a valid reason why the would need a picture other than to determine skin color. Considering that I have always gone to schools where people of all races attended and there were never any race issues, that I am aware of, I could not believe a school would make such a request.

I decided to apply to Howard University instead of Morehouse, and I am a proud graduate.

Maybe in the future you should research before singling out a specific School for doing something that was common practice back in the day. I think the real story should be that Morehouse was still requiring pictures in the 90's.
