Celebrated Chef Paula Deen has admitted using racial slurs and racist jokes in a deposition videotaped May 17.
The 66-year-old TV star is involved in a $1.2 million lawsuit brought by the former general manager of her popular Savannah, GA restaurant. Lisa Jackson claimed sexual harassment and infliction of emotional distress by Deen’s brother Bubba Hiers.
When asked if she ever uttered the N-word, Deen, who hails from Albany, GA, said “Yes, of course,” and went on to give examples, according to UK’s Daily Mail.
Deen also admitted saying she wanted to create a plantation-themed wedding with black wait staff dressed as slaves.
She said she got the idea for the slave theme while visiting a restaurant with her husband.
“The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie,” she said.
Deen added: “I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America… after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War. It was not only black men, it was black women. I would say they were slaves.”
How comforting the memories must’ve been for her. Here in the deep south, women like Deen cling to their racism fantasies.
